90 Percent Preparation

For The Rescue I shot the background at the local dump. I shot the girls on stage, trying to duplicate the lighting from the background shoot. It turned out pretty well, so I started the painting.

However, the background had more of an organic look and feel and I was going for more of a destruction feel. So, realizing that the painting will be nothing but frustrating without a quality reference, I set aside the paints and pulled out the graphite. I’m now working on a value study and building the background that I really wanted. I will still use the lighting reference from the original background shoot; I am simply adding more structural and geometric elements as well.

This is the progress I’ve made so far. Still in the beginning stages, and frustrating to be drawing when I’d rather be painting, but progressing still the same.

My biggest interruption to The Rescue will be showcased in my next blog.
