Lead By Example

I am co-teaching the art education class with an art professor at our local university. As the Director of Education for the university’s art gallery my portion of the curriculum is using art exhibition as a model for teaching art.

The students are creating an exhibit based on the theme “A Chink In My Armor”. They are required to design, install, publicize and assess the exhibit. When developing the theme and deciding on the artwork they would create for the exhibit, the students decided that the teachers should have to create a piece of art as well.

So… I have had only three weeks to complete a painting. Considering I usually spend about three months on a painting (I painted 90% of Supplication with a size 0 brush) this has proven to be a very daunting challenge.

It’s actually turned out to be a great exercise for me in loosening up and painting more symphonically rather than being so detail oriented.

Yikes...3 weeks!!!! I am interested to see how it progresses, loose can be good! :)
