Shoes

Over the past several months I have been reading about and watching movies about women and their roles in society. I am very interested in women today and what roles we play that are leftovers from the past as well as how we have progressed past some of the more submissive, objectifying, and property roles.

I have begun an art series on this topic. The series begins with the photo essay I will post over the next 10 days. Beginning in January (it's just too hard to get any real work done over the holidays!) I'll start a series of paintings inspired by Mary Stevenson Cassatt. I'll talk more about that in January.

In this series I asked women what defined them as a woman. What made them feel feminine or really like a woman? These photos are the answers I received.

In each photo their is a young girl who is watching these women. How do we learn who we are as women? The same way we learn most everything in life. By imitating.

The series it titled Learning To Be A Woman

This first piece is Shoes. I found it interesting that this was the most popular answer. I didn't become addicted to shoes myself until my own daughter was old enough to show me how much fun it is to shop for shoes. I am now as much in love with shoes as every other woman. Thank you my dear daughter!

Boots count as shoes. Boots were also mentioned by name!
