A Lady

This couple lives near me and they are my role models. He consistently exemplifies chivalry and she ever acts the lady. She adores him and talks reverently and respectfully of him always. I was anxious to ask her what made her feel feminine. After giving some of the obvious answers she stopped herself almost mid sentence and said, "You know, this may sound strange, but I feel like a woman when my husband opens the car door for me. He's always done it and has even gotten after me if I ever try to get in by myself. He holds the door open for me wherever we go, he helps me on with my coat. He's just always a gentleman."

I wanted to cry. How can we not feel like a woman when a man treats us so? And what an honor we show ourselves, as women, when we allow ourselves to be treated as such.

Our little girl is wondering just what she should do. Having a man open the door for a woman isn't something she's seen on a regular basis. Should she open, should she wait? How many of us find ourselves in her shoes? Some say chivalry is dead. Personally, I believe it is only dead if we allow it to die.
