Time's UP!

The painting is multi-media. I modge-podged the recipe cards, the scripture pages, and some brush bristles to the canvas. I have a friend who created a multi-media piece that I loved. I've been wanting to try it for a while and this seemed to be a good opportunity. I'm pleased with the results.

Sometimes it's the outside world that tells us who to be and how to be. At other times the pressure comes from within the walls of our own homes. The recipes represent expectations from parents, siblings, spouses, or other family members who expect us to be traditional women.

The scriptures in the background can be interpreted as resting on the window sill or floating along with the other items. The window is open, representing freedom and truth. The scriptures, symbolizing religion, can be interpreted as another reason to to condemn ourselves for not being good enough, or as part of the answer.

I wouldn't be satisfied with it as a portrait piece, but for this project and the time frame, I'm content.

UGH....media/society image and then the food of our society...does it make any sense at all??? We tear ourselves down b/c we can reach this pinnacle of health and wieght and body shape that is impossible for most people and then what catches us??? The food!!! Oh the delicious net of food that catches us when we fall!!!

Love your comment. Yes, food can be a HUGE entrapment. It's such a hard battle and a fine line to walk between enjoying life and accepting who and what we are, and striving to be our best and healthiest in all ways. A little teeter or totter in either direction and we can get lost in the mess of it all.
