The baby symbolizes the purity of the human soul. A child, especially an infant, is innocent, wholesome, and adored.
I find it interesting that as we grow up we also tend to grow away from such humility. Only those who are growing old seem to desire to return to it. And yet, don't we each at times, yearn for the days when life was so simple that we were cherished just for the grace of our smile?
